Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We are confident that all of our elementary students will enjoy a year of learning that excites, fascinates, challenges, and fosters creativity and independence. We are committed to practicing the principles of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Responsive Classroom.
Our Project Work addresses each student’s cognitive growth through projects that develop higher order thinking, require research and experimentation, and teach critical academic skills and knowledge. Responsive Classroom practices address each student’s social and emotional growth by providing opportunities for self-expression, teamwork, discussion, and a chance to talk with caring adults about personal interests and concerns.
In 2014, Voyager Academy Elementary was chosen as an Ashoka Changemaker School. Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs, strives to create an “Everyone a Changemaker” world in which more and more people respond proactively to social problems, and where each person has the confidence, skills, and support to drive effective change. The Ashoka network is a growing community of leading elementary, middle, and high schools that prioritize empathy, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and change-making as student outcomes. These schools lead the way to ensure that every child develops agency, empathy, and voice.
At VAES, our vision is to create nurturing, respectful classrooms full of learning, where children care about the world around them, embrace and value diversity, and inspire curiosity beyond the school day. With our core values of confidence, curiosity, empathy, reflection, and integrity, we have a commitment beyond academics. We recognize that these skills are essential for students to be prepared for our rapidly changing world.
Thank you for all your help and support!! I am looking forward to a fabulous school year!!
